Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Mike Kennedy
Mike Kennedy was a solid defensive centre on the Dallas Stars and Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1990s. He also possessed sound offensive instincts and was utilized occasionally on the power-play.

Born in Vancouver, Kennedy played two years at the University of British Columbia beginning in 1989. After scoring 28 points in 34 games in 1990-91, he was chosen 97th overall by the Minnesota North Stars in the NHL Entry Draft. In order to enhance his chances of making the pros, Kennedy spent a year playing junior in the tough Western Hockey League. In 1991-92 the hard working forward scored 42 goals for the Seattle Thunderbirds and another 17 points in 15 playoff games.

Kennedy continued his rise to the NHL by spending two seasons with the Kalamazoo Wings of the IHL. He recorded consecutive 20-goals seasons then made his NHL debut as regular with the relocated stars in Dallas in 1994-85. Kennedy was a solid role player for the Stars until he was signed as a free agent by the Toronto Maple Leafs prior to 1997-98 season.

He saw little ice time with the struggling Leafs and spent most of the year in the AHL with St. John's. He was traded back to Dallas but the stars had become one of the deepest teams in the NHL. Kennedy signed with the New York Islanders and played one game in 1998-99. The veteran forward headed overseas in 1999 to play for the Munich Barons of the German League where he began his third season in 2001-02.
