Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Rusty Fitzgerald
Centre Rusty Fitzgerald played 25 games for the Pittsburgh Penguins in the mid-90s. He was a consistent offensive producer in college but struggled to duplicate that success as a professional.

Born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Fitzgerald moved to Duluth and was a high school hockey star. Following an exceptional senior year. He played four years at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and scored a combined 60 goals. Following his senior year in 1984-85, Fitzgerald played four games with Penguins and registered his first NHL goal.

Fitzgerald enjoyed a solid season with the IHL's Cleveland Lumberjacks in 1995-96 while also taking part in 21 games in Pittsburgh. Injuries forced him to sit out the 1996-97 season. Fitzgerald returned to play 34 games in 1997-98 before he was forced to retire.
