Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Todd Elik
Todd Elik came through the junior ranks in Ontario, playing first with the Kingston Canadians and then the North Bay Centennials. His offensive numbers were never overly impressive, which may have been why he was overlooked in the draft. Despite never reaching the 50-point plateau in three years of junior hockey, Elik was determined to prove he was good enough to make the NHL.

He got off to a good start in the minors in 1987-88, while playing with Colorado Rangers, scoring 44 goals and 56 assists for 100 points in 81 games. After another full season in the minors Elik got his chance in the NHL when the Los Angeles Kings called him up. In 48 games he produced ten goals and 23 assists for 33 points. He followed that up with a 58-point effort in 1990-91 in 74 games.

Elik moved on to the Minnesota North Stars where he played in 108 games over two seasons. He was then sent to the Edmonton Oilers, but despite his excellent skating ability, he was never able to fit in to their system. After just four games in the 1993-94 season he was traded to the San Jose Sharks, where he enjoyed a rebirth of sorts, scoring a career-high 25 goals and 41 assists for 66 points in 75 games.

Elik also made brief stops in St. Louis and Boston, but he wound up spending most of his time in the minors with Boston's farm team in Providence. His last NHL season was 1996-97 when he appeared in 37 games with the Bruins. As of 2001, Elik was still playing professional hockey with Zug in the Swiss Elite League.
