Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Joe Day
Chicago, Illinois native Joe Day was born on May 11th, 1968 and represented his country in the 1988 World Junior Championships in the midst of his collegiate career. After four years at St. Lawrence University Day turned pro with the Hartford Whalers organization, the team that drafted him in 1987. Day spent the 1990-91 season, his first as a pro, with the Springfield Indians then made his NHL debut the following year.

Day played 24 games for the Whalers in each of the next two seasons registering three assists his rookie year then upping his totals to 1 goal and eight points the following year. Day left the Hartford Whalers that summer when his contract expired and he signed on with the New York Islanders.

With the Islanders the pattern continued when Day suited up for 24 contests but this time he was unable to crack the score sheet. It was the last time Day would play in the National Hockey League.

Day, a centre, spent all but 11 games of the next five seasons in the International Hockey League then moved onto the Pensacola Ice Pilots of the East Coast Hockey League for the 2000-01 season, but after just six games, Day's called it a career.
