Legends of Hockey -- NHL Player Search -- Player -- Dave Archibald
Drafted 6th overall in 1987, he entered the league as an 18-year old on a bad team and was supposed to be the North Stars guiding light after scoring 50 goals for Portland in his last year of junior. He made the team his first year, was given plenty of ice time, but scored just 13 goals. When he failed to become a superstar overnight, his ice time diminished and his confidence slipped. His stock dropped quickly, and two years later he was traded to the Rangers who deemed a minor-leaguer.

Archibald packed his hockey bag and took his show international for two years, first playing with Canada's National team in the 1991 World Championships (silver medal) and then the 1992 Olympics (another silver), where he led all scorers with seven goals.

He played briefly in Italy, then made a moderately successful return to the NHL with the expansion Ottawa Senators during the 1992-93 season. History then repeated itself. Four part-time years later, he was traded to the Islanders and then finished the season in Europe, playing in Germany. He split the next three years between the IHL and Sweden, and at just 32 he still has plenty of hockey in him.
