Deutchland Cup Logo Created in 1987 by the German Ice Hockey Union, the Deutschland Cup is usually played in Stuttgart at the beginning of November. No tournament was held in 1989. The inaugural tournament in 1987 only had three teams participate with Czechoslovakia winning the gold, Germany took the silver and Poland won the bronze. Since 1987 the tournament has had as many as six teams split into two pools. The Soviet Union/Russia are the overall leaders with four Deutschland Cup championships to their credit. Two team, Russia and Germany have won the tournament in two consecutive seasons. Other champions include, Finland, Czech Republic and Slovakia. The Deutschland Cup is one tournament the Canadians have never managed to win, their best finish was second in 1993.
