In Canada's absence, a European entry won gold for the first time. Host nation Czechoslovakia won the simple round-robin, one division format that was to become the tournament structure for years to come. The Czechoslovaks had a 6-1 record beating Austria 13-5, Switzerland and the United States 6-1, Poland 12-0, Romania 23-1, and Belgium 24-0. Their only loss was to 2-1 to Sweden.
