Canada continued its pre-World War II dominance when the Sudbury Wolves claimed the gold medal. As a sign of things to come, the Canadians faced tougher competition, never winning by more than two goals or scoring more than three and playing to an embarrassing 1-1 tie with the unheralded Hungarian team. In the finals, the Wolves, received stiff resistance from Britain largely due to their goalie Jimmy Foster. This was the same man who helped his nation beat Canada for gold in the 1936 Olympics. It wasn't until a late goal in the third gave Canada a 3-1 lead that victory was assured, and the Wolves were able to take gold home. The Canadian team, coached by Max Silverman, included Pat McReavy, Roy Heximer, Mel Albright, Johnny Godfrey, Glen Sutherland, Gordon Bruce, Jimmy Russell, Buster Portland, Jack Marshall, John Coulter, Percy Allen, Reg Chipman, and Archie Burn.
