No less than ten players who had been on the previous year's Gold Medal winning team returned to Europe to claim another title. "Captain Canada" - Ryan Smyth was once again joined by such starts as Dany Heatley, Daniel Briere and Roberto Luongo. The Niedermayer brothers - Scott and Rob added yet another dimension to the team which seemed to enjoy its time in Prague.

After a meaningless tie with Austria, Team Canada's only other blemish came in the form a sound defeat to the hometown Czechs. After that loss, they went into cruise control en route to its second straight World Championship gold, something that Canada hadn't been able to accomplish since back to back titles in 1958 and 1959.
