The gold medallist USSR posted a record of six wins and a tie in seven matches. For the second straight world tournament, the line of Veniamin Alexandrov, Konstantin Loktev and Alexander Almetov scored more than one-third of its team's goals. Alexandrov led all scorers with nine goals and eight assists, an average of better than two points per game. And although the Soviet team was its usual offensive powerhouse, goalies Viktor Konovalenko and Viktor Zinger combined to surrender a total of only seven goals, an average of just one per game. The solid defence brigade of Alexander Ragulin, Vladimir Brezhnev, Oleg Zaitsev, Vitaly Davidov and Viktor Kuzkin gave their goaltenders excellent protection.
