The Americans won their first world title at Canada's expense at Prague in 1933. The US team was directed by Walter Brown, who later became involved in the Boston Bruins. As usual, none of the other eight teams in the tournament provided much opposition, so the Canadians and Americans played for gold. The outcome was different this year, however, as Johnny Garrison scored for the US in overtime to give his team a shocking 2-1 victory and hand Canada its first international defeat in 13 years.
