World Championships Photo Rosters were increased to 18 players and tournament organizers had to cope with enormous difficulties in providing accommodations and training facilities for the visiting teams. Anatoly Firsov, the talented Soviet centre whom scouts said would have been a superstar in the NHL, was brilliant in leading his country to the World Championship gold medal in 1967. He scored 11 goals and assisted on 11 others in just seven games to lead the USSR to a perfect record of 7-0-0. Sweden and Canada tied for second place with records of 4-2-1, but the Swedes won the silver medal by virtue of their 6-0 win over the Canadians, who took the bronze. The Canadian team was bolstered by ex-pros Carl Brewer and Jack Bownass on defence.
