International The Finnish media gave Janne Ojanen the nickname of "Golden Boy" after winning gold medals at the 1986 European Junior Championships, the 1987 World Junior Championships and with his team in the Finnish League ... European Junior All-Star in 1986 ... A veteran of the 1987 and 1991 Canada Cup tournaments, 1988 and 1994 Olympics and four World Championships ... Missed the 1992 Albertville Olympics due to a wrist injury ... Became a world champion in 1995 and won a silver medal in 1994 ... He scored one of the most important goals in Finnish hockey history when he scored the first goal in a 2-1 victory over the Soviet Union that brought Finland its first Olympic silver medal at Calgary in 1988 ... Played in the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and at the 1997 World Championships.

Career New Jersey's third choice, 45th overall, in 1986 NHL Entry Draft ... Joined the Devils organization 1988-89 ... Played his first full NHL season for the Devils in 1989-90, collecting 17 goals and 13 assists for 30 points in 64 games ... Came back to Finland in 1990, but rejoined the Devils prior to the 1992-93 season ... Returned to Finland a year later ... Began his hockey career with Tappara Tampere ... Won national Finnish championship twice, both with Tappara in 1987 and 1988 during his first two regular seasons with the club ... Named the Finnish Rookie of the Year in 1987 ... Third-leading scorer in the 1987 Finnish playoffs with 10 points in nine games ... After returning from the NHL in 1993, he played three seasons with his native Tappara ... Had 11 points in the 1994 playoffs ... Finnish League's third-leading scorer in 1994-95 ... In 1995-96, he was the second-leading scorer in the Finnish League (20 goals, 44 assists in 45 games played) for Tappara ... Next year, joined the Swedish club Malmo.
