Reijo Ruotsalainen

Reijo Ruotsalainen represented Finland at the World Junior Championships from 1977 to 1979 and the the World Championships from 1978 to 1981. He was named best defenseman and a tournament all-star at the 1980 event. From 1981-82 until 1989-90, Ruotsalainen played in the NHL with the New York Rangers, Edmonton Oilers and New Jersey Devils. He also spent time in both Finland and Sweden during those years, and represented his country again at the World Championships in 1985 and 1989, the Canada Cup in 1981 and 1987 and the 1988 Calgary Olympics. He has continued to play in Finland and Switzerland since 1990, though he remains on the NHL protected list of the Edmonton Oilers and was protected during the 1998 Expansion Draft. Ruotsalainen's father Reino coaches the Finnish National Junior Team. Star Player Photo
