Michal Pivonka

Michal Pivonka caught the attention of NHL scouts at the 1983 European Junior Championships when he was named to the tournament All-Star Team. He represented Czechoslovakia at the World Junior Championships in 1984 and was named both an All-Star and Best Forward at the 1985 event. That year, Pivonka also represented Czechoslovakia at the World Championships and won a gold medal. He played at both tournaments again in 1986. Pivonka entered the NHL with the Washington Capitals in 1986-87. After coming to North America, Pivonka played for Czechoslovakia at the Canada Cup in 1991. During a 14 year NHL career Pivonka played only with the Washington Capitals and their affiliates. Pivonka signed as a free agent with the Kansas City Blades of the IHL in 1999-2000, and retired following that season. Star Player Photo
