Doug Weight

Doug Weight is a smooth skater and crafty playmaker who has dressed for Team U.S.A. on several different occasions. Weight chipped in three assists on the 2002 Olympic team that earned a silver medal after a tough 5-2 loss to Canada in the gold medal game and was also a member of the 1998 Olympic team. Weight also helped Team U.S.A. claim the World Cup of Hockey in 1996 contributing seven points in seven games, but as a member of the 2004 team was unable to defend the title.

Weight has played in the World Championship twice for the U.S., playing on the 1993 and 1994 teams scoring ten points in two tournaments. He also led all players in points at the 1990-91 World Junior Championship with five goals and 14 assists for 19 points. Despite Weight's brilliant performance in that tournament, the American's lost the bronze medal game to Czechoslovakia and finished fourth.

Weight was chosen 34th overall by the New York Rangers in the 1990 NHL Entry Draft. He played two seasons with the Rangers before being traded to the Edmonton Oilers during the 1992-93 season. In Edmonton Weight became an elite playmaker and strong leader, and had a career season in 1995-96 scoring 104 points. He became a fan favorite in Edmonton and was named the 10th captain in team history prior to the 1999-2000 season. He was traded to the St. Louis Blues on July 1, 2001. Cementing him as one of the premiere set-up men in the game, he notched his 600th career assist during the 2003-04 season.
