Tony Amonte

Tony Amonte starred at Boston University and signed his first professional contract with the New York Rangers on April 2, 1991 -- two days after BU lost the NCAA Championship to Michigan in triple overtime. He scored 35 goals as an NHL rookie in 1991-92 and was a finalist for the Calder Trophy that went to Pavel Bure. In international play, Amonte represented the United States team at the World Junior Championships in 1989 and 1990 and at the World Championships in 1991 and 1993. In 1996, he scored the series-winning goal in game three as the United States beat Canada at the World Cup of Hockey. He was also a member of the U.S. Olympic team at Nagano in 1998. Amonte returned to the Olympics in 2002 and posted two goals and two assists to help the U.S. to a silver medal. In 2004, Amonte was named to the defending champion Team USA squad for the World Cup of Hockey, but the team was unable to get past the semi-finals. Star Player Photo
