The Edmonton Mercurys were Canada's representatives at these Oslo Games. The team was formed from the 1950 World Champions and augmented by Ralph Hansch in goal and scoring stars David Miller and George Abel. Billy Gibson led the offence, scoring 15 goals and 22 points in the eight games. Canada finished with a 7-0-1 record. All but two games were lopsided. They tied silver-medallists USA 3-3 and narrowly defeated bronze-medallist Sweden 3-2, won on a goal by Billy Dawe with just 20 seconds left in the game. The Mercurys were the last team to earn gold for Canada at the Olympics.
