Harry Lindblad

Born July 30, 1912 in Viborg, Finland. Harry Lindblad was an IIHF Council member from 1967 to 1976. Harry was the President of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association from 1957 to 1975 after having been Vice President the previous five years. Harry Lindblad was instrumental in convincing the IIHF to allocate the 1965 IIHF World and European Championship to Tampere, Finland. In doing so, it marked the beginning of a new era in Finland, in which indoor ice hockey arenas were built. He was the chairman of the IIHF World Championship Organising Committee in both 1965 and 1974. Lindblad also respected the heritage of the game of ice hockey, becoming one of the founding members and first chairman of the Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame. He was elected as an IIHF Honorary Member in 1975. Harry Lindblad passed away on February 2, 1984.
