Rudolf Eklow


Born on January 15, 1904 in Stockholm, Sweden. In his youth, Rudolf Eklöw participated in track and field, tennis, soccer and curling. He served as soccer referee in 16 international matches including one match at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Rudolf Eklöw served as Vice President of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association for a total of 22 years from 1948 until 1970. He was a member of the Swedish Olympic Committee and Council Member of the International Ice Hockey Federation from 1951 to 1971, holding the position of IIHF Vice President from 1957 until 1966. He was elected as an IIHF Honorary Member in 1976. During the course of his duties as a member of the IIHF Council, Rudolf Eklöw helped define and refine the rules of the game of ice hockey. For a half century, he was one of the leading sport journalists in his native country Sweden, during the period of the late 1920's until his retirement in the late 1970's. Rudolf Eklöw passed away on September 29, 1986.
