Enrico Calcaterra


Born on January 1, 1905 in Milan, Italy. Enrico Calcaterra was a pioneer in ice hockey in his native Italy. He represented Italian club team HC Milano as a goalkeeper for years winning a total of nine national championship titles. Calcaterra played in thirty-two games for the Italian National Team beginning in Davos at the 1926 IIHF European Championship and finally at the 1936 Olympic Winter Games. Overall, he represented Italy in two European and four World Championship tournaments as well as one Olympic tournament. Calcaterra was the founding member of the Italian Ice Sport Federation and served as President from 1946 to 1952 and also from 1960 until 1972.In addition to representing his country at IIHF Congresses from 1933 to 1968, he was also a member of the Italian Olympic Committee. Aside from being a great promoter of the game of ice hockey, Calcaterra was also an excellent athlete and international referee. Enrico Calcaterra passed away on June 8, 1994.
