Walter Wasservogel


Walter Wasservogel was born in Austria on February 20, 1919. He was the first full time General Secretary of the IIHF, serving from 1978 until 1986. Wasservogel was responsible for organizing ice hockey at the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 and 1976 in Innsbruck, and the IIHF World Championship in 1967 and 1977 in Vienna. He became active in the Austrian Ice Hockey Federation in 1947 and served as President between 1962 until 1977, when he was elected Honorary President. Walter Wasservogel was also a member of the IIHF Council from 1969 to 1978. In his active career as a player he won four national championship titles. For his contributions to the Olympic Winter Games, he received the Olympic Order in 1986. Walter Wasservogel passed away April 14, 1993, and was added to the IIHF Honour Roll in the builders' category in 1997.
