Jakob Kolliker


Born July 21, 1953. Jakob Kolliker began his career with EHC Biel in 1970 at the age of 17 and although he would later suit up for Ambri Piotta it was was with Biel where he enjoyed three national championships in 1978, 1981 ans 1983 ultimately suiting up for over 500 Swiss league games. Kolliker even won a championship in South Africa with the Swiss Bears in 1973. Internationally, Kolliker debuted for the Swiss national team in 1973, an international career that would end up establishing the Swiss record for games played  213. Many of though games were played during high porfile events including 12 IIHF World Championship events and also the 1976 and 1988 Winter Olympics. Always a dependable defender, Kolliker was individually honoured during the 1981 World Championship B Pool as the IIHF Directorate Award winner as Best Defensman. Upon retirement, Kolliker was able to pass on his knowledge and experience as he accepted coachiong positions, first with his former club, EHC Biel and later the Swiss national team.
