Richard Torriani


Richard "Bibi" Torriani was born on October 1, 1911. His long international career as a player lasted two decades. Torriani participated in the 1928 Olympic Winter Games in St. Moritz winning bronze and renewed bronze twenty years later, again in St. Moritz. At IIHF World Championships, he earned one silver and five bronze medals. Torriani was also the IIHF European Champion in 1935, and won silver five times and a bronze twice. He won 17 Swiss national championship titles with Davos. As a great all-around athlete, Torriani also won a World Championship silver medal in luge. He coached the Swiss National Team from 1950-1954 and the Italian national team from 1955-1957. Bibi Torriani passed away on September 3, 1988.
