Viktor Tikhonov was born on June 4, 1930. He coached the Soviet Union to three Olympic Winter Games gold medals and one silver medal, eight IIHF World Championship titles, one silver medal, eight IIHF World Championship titles, one silver and two bronze medals and one Canada Cup title. Tikhonov has also coached CSKA to 14 European Cup titles and 13 national championship titles. Under his coaching, CSKA Moscow won 13 straight European Champions Cup titles. He was instrumental in creating the legendary "Green Unit", which included Viacheslav Fetisov, Alexei Kasatonov, Sergei Makarov, Igor Larionov and Vladimir Krutov. |
