Jiri Holecek


Goalkeeper Jiri Holecek was born on March 18, 1944 in Prague, Czechoslovakia. His brilliant international career started in 1966 at the World and European Championship. In total, Holecek participated in two Olympics and 10 World and European Championships from 1966 to 1978. He was a world champion in 1972, 1976 and 1977, silver medallist in 1966, 1971, 1974, 1975 and 1978, and bronze medallist in 1973. Holecek also earned an Olympic silver medal at Innsbruck in 1976, a bronze medal at Sapporo in 1972 and was a finalist at the 1976 Canada Cup. The IIHF Directorate presented Holecek with the best goalkeeper award for a record five times in 1971, 1973, 1975, 1976 and 1978 and he was an IIHF World Championship all-star in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1976 and 1978.
