Lou Nanne


Born June 2, 1941. Nanne played collegiate hockey at the University of Minnesota from 1959-63. In 1968, Nanne began his international career as captain of the U.S. Olympic Team. He also served as captain of the 1975 and 1977 U.S. Men's National Teams, and was the assistant captain for the fourth-place Team USA in the 1976 Canada Cup tournament. He was later named general manager of the United States teams in the 1981, 1984 and 1987 Canada Cup tournaments as well as during the 1994 IIHF World Championship. Following the 1968 Olympics, Nanne joined the Minnesota North Stars and in 11-year seasons, he tallied 72 goals and 167 assists for 239 points. Afterward Nanne became the team's General Manager, serving in that capacity until 1990.

Nanne has received numerous awards and honors, including being named to the 50 Year Western Collegiate Hockey Association All-Star Team and being awarded the prestigious Lester Patrick Award in 1980 for his outstanding service to hockey in the United States. In 1998 he was enshrined in the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
